A hard blow at the beginning

JM Barrie was born in 1860 as the son of Margaret and Alexander Barrie, in the Scottish city of Kirriemuir. He had an older brother, David, who was known to be one of those adorable children that everyone appreciated. During the winter of 1867, David was beaten by a companion while practicing ice skating, busting his skull and dying on the spot. Barrie’s mother never recovered mentally, and it is said that she found some comfort in the fact that David would remain a child forever. It was here that Barrie’s lifelong obsession with children and the preservation of her innocence were anchored in her psyche.
